No evidence of paramilitary involvement in Kelly murder – PSNI

Police in Derry say there is no evidence of paramilitary involvement in the death of 35 year old Karol Kelly last weekend.
As the investigation continues into Mr Kelly’s death, the PSNI is again appealing again to anyone with
information to come forward, as efforts continue to piece together the sequence of events.
The father of five was stabbed to death in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Grafton Street area of Derry.
Three men aged, 17, 19 and 20 have been charged with Mr Kelly’s murder.
Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy says a number of witnesses have been interviewed with further enquiries due to continue in the coming weeks to clarify the circumstances surrounding Karol’s death.
He believes the community hold the answers and is particularly keen to speak to anyone who has information which might shed light on the background of the murder.
Police say they wish to clarify the following:
That currently there is no evidence of the involvement of paramilitary groups in the events of Saturday night and Sunday morning nor is there evidence that the incident was linked to threats which may have been made by, or on behalf of, paramilitary groups in the past or a reported pipe bomb having been left in Grafton Street several weeks ago.
There is also currently no evidence that a paramilitary style attack took place in Grafton Street, but police do believe an altercation took place in a property in Grafton Street immediately prior to the fatal assault on Mr Kelly.
