Police in Derry appealing to homeowners to protect their properties against opportunist burglars.
Its after six reported burglaries in the city within the space of one week.
The areas targeted were the Messines Park, Farmhill and Woodbrook areas in the city side, and Summer Meadows Manor and Woodburn Park in the Waterside area.
Chief Inspector Jonny Hunter said they believe, at this time that the burglaries are linked as in each case the burglar/s used the same method to force entry to homes, by smashing a window or door.
Its reported that once inside, the burglars ransacked the properties, taking items that they can flee easily such as; cash and jewellery.
In one break-in in the Farmhill area, a wedding and engagement ring was stolen.
The PSNI say they have increased patrols in the affected areas and are appealing to the public to report any suspicious activity or vehicles.
Chief Inspector Hunter is also urging homeowners to check locks, not only on the house but on any outbuildings, garages and sheds in order to safeguard valuable equipment.
