Donegal County Council is being urged to employ professionals to clean up the remaining asbestos at the Plaza site in Buncrana to allow Main Street reopen. It follows a fire 10 days ago which destroyed The Plaza and the adjoining Barr’s drapery shop.
Inishowen Municipal District was told this week that air sampling results have been satisfactory, and the roofing which is under scrutiny is a 90% concrete 10% asbestos mix which is regarded as being of low risk.
Officials say they have asked the owners of The Plaza to make it safe, and are hoping to have a follow-up meeting in the coming days.
