A GAA club in Newtowncunningham has avoided an eight week suspension for hosting an “unauthorised tournament” on its playing grounds.
Naomh Colmcille held a soccer fundraising drive for former player and coach Paul Dillon who is suffering from motor neuron disease.
Last Tuesday, the Donegal Hearings Committee heard an appeal from club members but it found they breached two GAA rules.
Rather than an eight week suspension, the club will lose its home venue for all adult games for 12 weeks, and they were hit with a 500 euro fine.
