The cabinet has decided to retain four Search and Rescue helicopter bases, guaranteeing that Rescue 118 will continue to be based in Sligo.
The bases will be as before – Sligo, Shannon, Waterford and Cork.
The contract is currently out to tender, and there had been concerns when the initial documents specified ‘at least three’ bases.
