New bill could allow Gardaí to use drones during investigations

It’s understood a new bill, if it’s enacted, could allow the gardaí to use drones in the course of their work despite privacy concerns.

The Garda Síochána Digital Recording Bill is set to provide a legal basis for the ‘wider operational deployment of drones’.

The force bought 11 drones earlier this year for training purposes in anticipation that this bill will go though.

Former Donegal garda sergeant Christy Galligan says those safeguards are essential, but drones could prove to be life-saving..
