A government pledge to end Direct Provision by 2024 is now a major doubt.
Minister Roderic O’Gorman says the arrival of Ukrainian refugees to Ireland along with a doubling of the numbers seeking refugee status from other counties, has prompted a re-think from Government.
The Minister has told the Irish Independent that ending Direct Provision – a key demand of the Green party during negotiations to form the current coalition government – by the 2024 deadline is “extremely unlikely”.
