Letterkenny mother forced to pay over €1,000 for private school bus

A Letterkenny mother whose son was turned down for a bus ticket is now paying €1,100 for private school transport.

Amanda explained that she applied for a bus ticket in March and her child was approved for the bus, but was then turned down just five days before starting school.

She now has to pay €1,100 for a private school bus to get her son to and from school..

Meanwhile, a father whose child cannot access school transport has hit out at Bus Eireann and says the system is not fit for purpose.

Yesterday, Bus Eireann claimed a number of pupils in the area were unsuccessful in acquiring a ticket as they did not complete the ticket registration process by the closing date of 29 July.

However, Gavin, a Letterkenny father whose children are unable to get the bus to school, says this is not true.

He says the system is not working for students or parents..
