Prosecution of Soldier F for murder on Bloody Sunday to resume

Prosecutors have today confirmed that the prosecution of Soldier F for murder and attempted murder on Bloody Sunday will recommence next Tuesday 27th September.

Soldier F faces prosecution for the murders of William McKinney and James Wray and the attempted murders of Joe Mahon, Joe Friel, Michael Quinn and Patrick O’Donnell.

On 22 March 2022 the Divisional Court allowed a judicial review brought by Mickey McKinney challenging a decision of the PPS on 2 July 2021 to end the prosecution against Soldier F.

On 6 September 2022 the Divisional Court refused the PPS permission to appeal the Divisional Court’s decision to the UK Supreme Court.

Mickey McKinney, brother of William McKinney today said,
“We are delighted that the prosecution of Soldier F will resume next week.

“We hope that the PPS secure an early date for the resumption of the committal proceedings and that Soldier F is returned for trial to the Crown Court without further delay.

“We hope to meet with the PPS to discuss the future progress of the case in the coming weeks.”
