Trial of Solider F to resume today

The trial of solider F accused of murder and attempted murder on Bloody Sunday is set to resume in Derry today.

The tragedy is known as one of the darkest days of the Troubles.

Soldier F faces prosecution for the murders of William McKinney and James Wray and the attempted murders of Joe Mahon, Joe Friel, Michael Quinn and Patrick O’Donnell.

On 22 March 2022 the Divisional Court allowed a judicial review brought by Mickey McKinney challenging a decision of the PPS on 2 July 2021 to end the prosecution against Soldier F.

On 6 September 2022 the Divisional Court refused the PPS permission to appeal the Divisional Court’s decision to the UK Supreme Court.
