Gangsta’s Paradise rapper Coolio died aged 59

Rapper Coolio has passed away at the age of 59.

While speaking to the press his manager, Jarez Posey, says he was visiting a friend’s house in Los Angeles when he apparently suffered a heart attack.

Tributes have been pouring in across social media led by fellow wrappers Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and MC Hammer.

Weird Al Yankovic also shared his condolences. The pair had a falling out over a parody of Coolio’s 1999 Grammy winning hit ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ but reconciled some time later.

Music journalist and former Deputy Editor of N-M-E, Eve Barlow, called the song an impactful anthem of the 90s.

They say the US artist, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey, will be “missed profoundly.”

Speaking on Irish radio in July of this year, Coolio summed up why he felt Gangsta’s Paradise was so successful around the world:
