Number of children homeless in NW more than doubles

The number of children homeless in the North West has more than doubled over the past year.

Latest figures from the Department of housing show 22 children are in emergency accommodation.

A total of 11 families are in need of housing in the region.

There’s been a notable increase in the number of people homeless in the North West.

89 adults were homeless in the region during the week from August 22nd-28th, that’s up 5% when compared to the previous month and up 27% when compared to the same period in 2021.

Of those homeless, 37 adults are in emergency accommodation in the Donegal/ Leitrim areas, up from 29 in August last year.
