Derry councillor hopes redress scheme will be available in North if more mica homes confirmed

A Ballyarnett Councillor hopes a redress scheme will be made available to mica homeowners in the North if more cases of suspected mica are identified.

It comes as a Derry family’s home at Beragh Hill Road near Ballyarnett has been confirmed as one of the first cases of mica in the North.

Antou councillor for Ballyarnett Emmet Doyle says the news of the mica confirmed in his area came as a shock however it was always a possibility due the close proximitory of the border.

He says if more people come forward with suspected mica in their homes, he hopes compensation will be available to them..
