There’s a warning that Irelands abortion system could collapse.
A review carried out into the provision of terminations is currently with Health Minister Stephen Donnelly.
It’s looked into the experiences of women and service providers, and according to the Irish Times has identified shortcomings in the spread of services across the country and the availability of staff and hospital facilities.
It quotes researcher Dr. Deirdre Duffy, who helped compile parts of the review, as saying the current consultant-led system is ‘not sustainable’ as there aren’t ‘very many consultants’.
