New proposals to reduce speed limits described as ‘not necessary’

The new proposals going to cabinet today have been described as “not necessary”.

Under the plans, most speed limits would be reduced by 20 kilometres an hour.

So far this year, 178 people have died on the roads – 23 more than last year.

Independent Kerry TD Michael Healy Rae thinks reducing limits would do no good:
