Cllr Patrick McGowan will contest the upcoming local elections in the Lifford Stranorlar electoral area.
He was selected at the Fianna Fáil selection convention last night in Ballybofey.
It is expected the Fianna Fáil Headquarters will announce a second candidate for the electoral area in the coming days.
