Calls for new safeguarding laws to protect vulnerable adults

New laws are being suggested to protect vulnerable adults.

A report from the Law Reform Commission recommends four new criminal offences to safeguard at-risk adults from physical, emotional, sexual and financial harm.

It also wants to see the establishment of a specialist safeguarding body, and reporting obligations for the likes of nursing homes, disability day care services and homeless accommodation providers, who deal with vulnerable adults.
