The Dail has been told that the inshore fishing sector is dying, and not enough is being done to save it.
Donegal Deputy Padraig MacLochlainn told the Dail that inshore fishers have received little financial assistance since Brexit.
He said there was no tie up scheme or fuel supports provided to cope with the big increases in energy costs and now there is a collapse in crab and lobster prices as well as other shell fish species.
Minister Hildegarde Naughton told him that some supports are available, and a new Inshore Fishing Strategy plan is being considered………..
Deputy MacLochlainn countered that there is an urgent need for financial supports now to save the sector, and questioned whether the government has any understanding of the scale of the crisis………….
