Number of learner drivers involved in fatal crashes has trebled

The number of learner drivers involved in fatal road crashes has trebled over four years.

11 learner drivers were involved in collisions in which someone died last year, compared to 3 in 2019.

The figures are contained in a briefing document by the Road Safety Authority which has been seen by the Irish Independent.

It’s resulted in calls for an urgent ban of drivers repeatedly getting learner permits.
