Almost 40 properties received planning permission exemptions to convert vacant commercial properties into homes in Donegal since 2018.
If realised, these have the potential to result in 72 new homes across the county.
Two years ago the exemption opened to private buildings, which seen an additional seven requests in Donegal.
The move has been made as part of governments Housing for All Plan.
