Mpox has the capacity to spread rapidly and globally.

There were 86 thousand cases in the last major outbreak and around 100 deaths.

A case has been detected in Sweden and this strain of the virus which is very rare is being spread by very close contact.

DCU Professor of Health Systems Professor Anthony Staines says it will probably arrive in this country.
