A status yellow wind warning has been issued for Donegal over the weekend.
The alert which begins in the early hours of Saturday also affects Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim.
Met Éireann says the main impact will be felt in coastal areas with wave overtopping and spray.
It says difficult travelling conditions can be expected, and is urging people to stay back, stay high and stay dry.
