IR£7 million exchanged at the Central Bank over the past 10 years

The Central Bank of Ireland is being presented with old Irish punt notes which have been eaten by flies, burnt, torn, and buried.

It says over £7 million in punts was exchanged in the last decade, more than 23 years on from the introduction of the euro.

Central Bank Chief Operations Officer, Marcella Flood says people are still availing of services on a near daily basis, to exchange old Irish pounds..………
