New documents reveal concerns that Stakeknife was a “danger to himself”

There were concerns that the British Army’s top spy inside the IRA was a “danger to himself” after his existence became public knowledge.

Known by the codename Stakeknife, newly released documents reveal there were fears among officials here that he may try to take his life.

The handwritten note is from 2003, following a period of intense scrutiny of the double agent’s role in murders and torture.
