Sinn Féin calls for legal protection for fadas in names

Sinn Féin is calling for legal protections to ensure people’s names are correctly spelt with fadas.

The party wants to introduce new rules to make sure fadas appear in people’s names and addresses.

The accent, which can feature on vowels in the Irish language, changes the meaning and pronunciation of words.
