A recent meeting of Letterkenny Milford Municipal District heard of issues surrounding smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in social housing.
This was raised by Cllr Gerry McMonagle, who has called for the council to do a full audit of all the alarms fitted in council-owned properties.
Cllr McMonagle highlights that some of the homes in the council’s portfolio are two decades old and need attention.
He says it’s not good enough to wait for tenants to raise the issue:
