Donegal Atlantic Way Ultra 555 comes to a close – Sean McFadden reports

David Fielding was the winner of the Donegal Ultra 555 Cycle Challenge held over the weekend.

The Clonmany-based rider clocked 20 hours, 1 minute and 53 seconds in what was his first attempt at the 555. Runner-up was Philip Culbert in 20:21.24, with Brian Burke third in 22:53.59.

Ronan McLaughlin was the first of the unsupported riders in a time of 18:57.20.

In the 333KM section, Lubomir Tomek took the honours in 11:48.43, with Jason Curran second in 12:23.23 and Simon McDowell in 13:03.39.

Vonsy Tri Club set a new course record of 11:26.05 in the mixed team category.

The 222KM event was won by double Olympian rower, Sam Lynch, in 8:02.59 from John Fallon in 8:44.35 and Paul Needham in 10:05.47.

The first female home was Paula Hegarty from Cranford in 9:34.00.
