Two-thirds of people diagnosed with cancer here are now surviving for at least five years.
A new National Cancer Registry report shows the rate has risen from 50 per cent two decades ago to 66 per cent today.
Cancer death rates have also fallen over the past 30 years, despite the number of diagnoses continuing to increase. Cancer mortality among people under 75 is now 11 per cent below the EU average.
The NCRI says earlier detection and advances in treatment have driven the improvement.
