Strabane Councillor Paul Boggs is set to join the Stormont Assembly on Monday.
The Sinn Féin representative will replace West Tyrone MLA Malíosa McHugh, who is retiring from the Assembly.
Cllr Boggs is expected to be formally co-opted within the next 48 hours, as the Electoral Commission process continues.
He says it’s an honour to take on the role, and that delivering the A5 will be a priority for him:
