PSNI officers in Strabane are investigating the theft and damage to four emergency throw lines which have been taken off their stands along the Strabane Canal Towpath, close to Ballymagorry, yesterday at around 6pm.
Police believe a witness observed two males throwing the emergency throw lines into the river and challenged them.
A police spokesperson said that the emergency equipment is expensive for community search and rescue to replace and are important for safety of those using the tow-path.
Those who may have witnessed this are asked to make contact with Police on 101.
