Work has begun on a major new wetland and nature trail project at Barrack Hill in Carndonagh.
Donegal County Council and community partners have marked the start of construction, which will transform land alongside the Ballywilly Brook into a new natural wetland and walking trail.
The project aims to boost biodiversity, improve the area’s resilience to flooding and create new habitats for wildlife.
It will also provide opportunities for recreation, education and wellbeing for local residents and visitors.
The initiative grew from the Carndonagh Biodiversity Action Plan, and has been driven by the Barrack Hill Town Park Steering Committee and the Inishowen Rivers Trust.
Cllr Martin Farren has welcomed the project, describing the trail as a fantastic example of community-led climate action in practice.
The project is being co-funded by the Irish Government and the European Union, with additional support from Donegal County Council, and construction will continue over the coming months.
