Donegal County Council and Donegal Tourism CLG hosted a major delegation this week.
The visit came as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade selected Donegal as the venue for meeting of the Committee for Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management.
The event brought together 27 delegates representing all EU member states alongside the chair of the committee Ms Natalia Raz to discuss strategic crisis response, human rights and governance.
Throughout the visit delegates visited the Gaeltacht region reflecting the commitment of Ireland’s EU Presidency to linguistic diversity following Irish becoming an EU working language.
Sessions were also held at Atlantic Technological University in Letterkenny including discussions on the transformation of policing and post-conflict resolution.
Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr Gary Doherty expressed the importance of the visit for Donegal saying that; ‘bringing European decision-makers directly into the northwest highlights its incredible regional connectivity and allows them to experience the warmth of our people and the depth of our heritage.’
