A man who rang the Police and told them ‘you’ll not be walking down the Garvaghy Road’ has been jailed for four months at Derry Magistrate’s Court today.
36-year-old Sean Gibbons of no fixed abode admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour on September the 30th.
The court heard that at 2:25pm on September 30th police received a call they later traced to Gibbons.
The caller said ‘the town is going to be shut down for a week you will not be walking down the Garvaghy Road.’
Gibbons was given a warning about his behaviour but at 5:30pm he walked into Strand Road PSNI station and shouted obscenities.
He was located outside the North West Institute and started shouting ‘up the RA’.
When asked if he had anything dangerous on him he said ‘a booby trap’.
Defence solicitor Caoimhe McDaid said Gibbons had been before the court in the past and said her client had ‘just been acting silly and acting the total prat.’
District Judge Conor Heaney said Gibbons has 129 previous convictions and had been making a nuisance of himself.
He said the custody threshold had been passed and sentenced Gibbons to four months in custody.
