
A Donegal Deputy has asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine to work with representatives of inshore fishermen to introduce an Inshore Fisheries Stabilisation and Climate Adaptation Scheme.
Sinn Féin’s fisheries spokesperson, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn, also asked whether the Minister has engaged with European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, or his office, to make the case for such a scheme.
Minister Martin Heydon took the question in the Dáil yesterday morning, outlining the €20 million secured for the fishing sector in next year’s Budget.
Deputy Mac Lochlainn said he was unsatisfied with the response, and stressed that Minister for the Marine, Timmy Dooley, must engage with the EU on the issue:
