The Bishop of Raphoe, Niall Coll, has congratulated Donegal-born Sister Mary T Barron on her historic papal appointment as President of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
The announcement was made yesterday, with Bishop Coll saying it is a source of immense pride for her native parish of Drumoghill.
He says her appointment marks a historic milestone, as she becomes the first woman to take up the senior leadership role, while also paying tribute to generations of Irish missionaries who have served communities around the world.
