‘Harmful’ Portuguese Man O’Wars spotted at Narin Beach

People are being urged to exercise caution after a number of Portuguese Man O’War have been spotted on Narin Beach.

The harmful creatures are known to live in tropical waters but have been driven from Spain and Portugal due to strong southwesterly winds.

Killybegs Coastguard are asking people to be vigilant when walking on beaches, and to keep children and pets away from them.

They say if you happen to get stung, remove the tentacles with tweezers or a gloved hand, pour hot water on the affected area, keep rinsing and seek medical advice if you form a reaction or have difficulty breathing.
