Nationwide strike to disrupt schools, hospitals and public services on Wednesday

The Government is facing renewed calls to negotiate a public sector pay deal, ahead of a nationwide strike on Wednesday.

More than 300,000 workers are expected to walk off the job, causing widespread disruption to essential services.

Schools across the country are expected to close, while hospitals face major disruption, with appointments and planned operations cancelled.

Government departments, local authorities and other public services will also be affected.

Emergency healthcare will continue, while public transport is expected to operate normally.

The Dáil and Seanad have also cancelled Wednesday’s sittings because of the strike.

Unions say the Government’s pay proposals fall short of what’s needed, and are threatening a second day of industrial action on October 21st.
