600 vacant and derelict properties restored in Donegal

Six-hundred previously vacant and derelict properties have been restored for residential use across Donegal.

That’s according to latest statistics from the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant scheme, for the period of July to September this year.

These 600 vacant and derelict properties in Donegal have been brought back into use through the scheme, with over €34 million in grant funding provided.

Demand remains strong in the county, with 1,702 applications received and 1,296 approved since the scheme was launched in 2022.

Between July and September this year, a further 58 vacant and derelict homes were refurbished, while 80 grant approvals were issued during the same period.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne, TD, notes this to be a major milestone in efforts to tackle vacancy and dereliction in Donegal.

Nationally, the scheme has helped bring more than 7,100 vacant and derelict properties back into use, with grant funding totalling over €396 million.
