As the evenings begin to get darker, Gardaí are reminding everyone of the importance of securing their properties.
They advise people to lock their properties at all times, and to leave some lights on both inside and outside, even if they are not going to be at home.
Gardaí also warn against keeping large amounts of cash inside.
If people have valuables, such as jewellery, that must be kept in the home, these should be stored in a good quality safe affixed to the wall.
Individuals should always report any type of suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to Gardaí straight away.
They should try to include descriptions of vehicles, people and direction of travel, if possible.
The Divisional Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Fergus McGroary, is available to advise in relation to security measures for home and businesses.
He can be contacted at Letterkenny Garda Station.
