7,645 patients left an Emergency Department before being discharged in the HSE West North West region from January to July this year.
This was revealed in figures released to Social Democrats TD Padraig Rice.
1,770 of these patients were at Letterkenny University Hospital out of more than 33,700 attendances.
The reason behind the decision was not given by patients but long wait times are being blamed in most cases.
4,446 patients were found to be wating more than 24 hours for a bed or to be discharged in the region so far this year, 876 of those were in Letterkenny.
