Rise in motor insurance costs blamed on legal fees

Legal costs are being blamed for another rise in the cost of motor insurance.

The Central Bank says while there was a moderation in the second half of last year, motor premiums rose by an average of 4 per cent.

New personal injury guidelines have seen a 22 per cent fall in the number of awards.

However Michael Horan from Insurance Ireland, says reforms haven’t impacted on the legal costs.
