A new ESRI report has warned that shortages of skilled workers could hamper Ireland’s plans for housing, infrastructure and healthcare.
The research shows Ireland is increasingly relying on workers from outside the European Economic Area to fill vacancies.
However, retaining those workers remains a challenge, with four-in-ten Critical Skills permit holders leaving Ireland after just two years.
A shortage of affordable housing is among the factors discouraging workers from staying.
