Paddy Doherty speaks to Katie Taylor on The Greg Hughes Podcast before her fight in Croke Park

There is sadness among the Donegal sporting community this morning as the news came through that Donegal boxing stalwart Paddy Doherty passed away on Wednesday.

Paddy was a multiple Ulster and Irish champion and won bronze at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.

Paddy will also be famously remembered as the last Irish boxer to fight at Croke Park until Katie Taylor’s farewell fight in September.

He fought Bobby Ruffe on the undercard of Muhammad Ali’s fight against Al “Blue” Lewis in July, 1972.

Paddy was a member of the Ballyshannon Boxing Club and also coached at St John Bosco’s in Donegal Town.
