The European Commission is accusing TikTok of designing an algorithm which creates “rabbit holes.”
It’s preliminarily found TikTok’s ‘For You’ feed is in breach of the Digital Services Act, under which it can issue fines up to 6% of a company’s annual global revenue.
The feed shows users a continuous stream of personalised videos, even when they’re related to mental health struggles and body image.
The commission says these “rabbit holes” can have a detrimental impact on users’ mental health, especially that of vulnerable adults and minors.
