Derry City and Strabane district council have moved to bring forward planning permission for the Factory Girls sculpture.
The sculpture which has been on the table for over 11 years with some concern that it may not come to fruition at all.
When complete, it will pay tribute to the women who, for over a century, made garments in Derry, Donegal and parts of West Tyrone.
Local Councillor Sandra Duffy is hopeful that once it goes to planning, the rest of the project will move quickly:
