We need to take our chances: McBride

The Finn Harps U15s welcome the Mayo Schoolboys League to ‘The Moss’ in Drumoghill this afternoon for ‘Matchday 8’ of the Elite Northern Section of the National League (kick-off 2.00). Mayo SBL travel in upbeat mood having picked up a valuable point away to their neighbours, Sligo Rovers, in last weekend’s round of fixtures.
Harps came out on top in an eight goal thriller that had it all against Monaghan United- Cavan FP last Saturday. A two goal deficit after only seven minutes had Harps’ youngsters on the ropes. Midway through the half Paul McBride’s boys regrouped and mounted a great comeback in the closing stages before the break with a brace of goals from in-form, Liam Donnelly, and a nice finish from midfielder, Jamie Harris. A further two goals from former Eany Celtic man, Josh Maxwell, and a sublime performance from Keadue’s Oisín McKelvey, saw Harps take all three points.
The Harps’ coaching staff of McBride, Trevor Gorman, Declan Malley and Mikey Grant, had high praise for the players for the character shown to get back into a match that was quickly slipping away from them at a stage. Looking ahead to this weekend’s challenge, McBride knows Mayo SBL will be coming to Donegal confident of getting a result and the manager says his side have to take more of the chances that they are creating.
“There’s been very little between all the teams in the group so far. We’ve played Mayo twice and both games were tense affairs, with very few chances. Both teams remain in contention and this might open up play more. We just need to take our chances when they come and match them for workrate.” On the injury front, Ben O’Donnell misses out this weekend due to an arm injury. An injury sustained by Conor Campbell in the Derry City match has cleared up and the Donegal Town lad has been back training and available for selection. Ciarán Dalton missed last weekend’s match due to a muscle strain but has trained all week and is all ready to go.
