Professor Breda Smyth has been appointed the Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health.
She has been the interim CMO since July, after the departure of Dr. Tony Holohan.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says he very much looks forward to working alongside Professor Smyth.
The CMO’s position has an annual salary of nearly €188,000.
