Rhys Irwin takes “Race of the Year” win at Mallory Park

On invite only, a selection of racers attended Mallory Park UK last weekend to battle for the prestigious Race of the Year award.

Rhys Irwin got the call and he and his team headed for the one day event in Leicestershire.

Sunday morning saw heavy showers and a drop in the track temperature. Superbikes and Supersport racers were paired together including BSB race winner Christian Iddon and Danny Kent to battle it out on the track.

Rhys, with an incredible lap time qualified on pole for Race 1, putting his Astro Triumph Supersport on the front row of the grid.

In Race 1, Rhys battled lap by lap finishing a credible 5th overall.

With a more even spread of power on the trackin Race 2, Rhys would take comfortable victory.

” This was a great days racing and I am delighted to be here. I had a good pace and am delighted with my results” said Rhys.

“It is a great finish to good years racing. BSB Supersport has been ultra competetive this year and I have made a good account of myself. A few weeks off now to relax and catch up with friends and then its back to training again in preparation for next season.”
