The European Parliament has approved the Gallagher Report by an overwhelming majority.
The Gallagher Report legislates for hard hitting sanctions against non EU countries engaged in unsustainable fishing practices.
The New Regulation is in direct response to the overfishing of mackerel by Iceland and the Faroe Islands in the NE Atlantic and will enter into force within a matter of weeks.
