Steen’s snub sparks calls for referendum on Presidential nomination system

Independent Ireland’s calling for a referendum to change the Presidential nomination system.

It’s after Maria Steen failed to secure the support of 20 Oireachtas members to appear on the ballot paper.

The first full day of campaigning in the election is getting underway , with Jim Gavin, Heather Humphreys and Catherine Connolly canvassing in various parts of the country.
